Together\, these accomplished musicians will present a program of beloved vocal works in a warm and welcoming setting. \nGuests will enjoy a delicious appetizer buffet\, the chance to connect with fellow music lovers\, and a memorable evening celebrating the power of live performance. Beverages will be available for purchase. \nProceeds from the Spring Fling Fundraiser will benefit PPOL’s Scholarship Fund. \nTickets are $75 for PPOL members and $85 for nonmembers and may be purchased online. Trainer \nAbout the Artists \nTenor Daniel Miller\, a native of Arvada\, is delighted to return to Opera Colorado’s Artists in Residence for the 2025–26 Season. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado and a master’s degree from Carnegie Mellon University. This season\, he appears on the Ellie Caulkins mainstage in La traviata (Gastone) and tours with Opera Colorado as Romeo in Romeo and Juliet and Frederic in The Pirates of Penzance. In 2025\, he was an Apprentice Artist with Central City Opera’s Bonfils-Stanton Foundation Artists\, covering Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville. His previous credits span opera and musical theater\, including Jean Valjean in Les Misérables\, Tamino in The Magic Flute\, the Mayor in Albert Herring\, and Laurie in Little Women. \nAmerican soprano Hallie Schmidt will begin the 25/26 season at Pacific Northwest Opera for both productions of Rinaldo and Ariadne auf Naxos. This past season\, Hallie was an Artist in Residence with Opera Colorado\, where she covered Marie in The Daughter of the Regiment\, and performed the role in the student matinee. Additionally she sang Inez in their concert production of Il Trovatore\, and covered Musetta in La Boheme. This past summer she was also an Apprentice Artist with Des Moines Metro Opera. Previous credits with PNO include Blonde in Die Entfürung aus dem Serail\, Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro\, and Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier. Other recent credits include Frasquita in Carmen (Tacoma Opera)\, Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos\, and The Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute (filmed production) with Opera Theatre of St. Louis. Hallie has received awards from the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition\, Lotte Lenya Competition\, the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival\, and was the 2023 winner of the Seattle Opera Guild Singer Development Awards. This season\, Hallie was also awarded second place at the Denver Lyric Opera Guild Competition. She is also a Co-Founder of Olympia Opera Theatre. \nJohn Morefield (a student of the renowned pianist and pedagogue Martin Katz)\, has been in the business of musical collaboration since childhood\, playing lead guitar\, bass and piano in rock bands\, jazz groups and pit orchestras. Before earning his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Northern Illinois University in 2018\, he studied voice\, composition\, jazz piano and choral conducting. His original composition for piano trio won first prize in the Northern Illinois University Chamber Music Competition\, and his playing has been featured on radio stations including WNIJ and Iowa Public Radio. \nJohn completed his doctoral studies in Collaborative Piano at the University of Michigan in May 2025\, where his dissertation recitals featured Schubert’s Winterreiseand Amy Beach’s Violin Sonata. While working on his degree\, he developed a deep passion for opera and served as coach and pianist for numerous productions including Elizabeth Cree\, The Turn of the Screw\, Gianni Schicchi and Cendrillon. John was awarded the inaugural Collaborative Pianist Prize in the George Shirley Vocal Competition\, and his recent projects include multiple world premiere performances\, a lecture performance of Magnus Lindberg’s Violin Concerto No. 2\, and Brahms’ Liebeslieder-Walzer with Martin Katz and members of the University of Michigan voice faculty. \nBesides his fondness for reading\, birdwatching and plane-spotting\, John loves to join his wife in conspiring to dress their pets in silly costumes\, perfecting their at-home barista skills\, and miniature golfing. \n  \nAbout the Pikes Peak Opera League \nPikes Peak Opera League’s mission is to promote knowledge and appreciation of opera\, musical theatre and vocal arts\, to encourage and support aspiring and professional opera and musical theatre artists\, and to support Opera Theatre of the Rockies and other regional opera\, classical and vocal arts organizations.

A tuneful exploration of a very special chapter in The Great American Songbook\, Marcia and Steve take on the legendary composer Jerome Kern\, once hailed by a joint Congressional resolution as\, “the father of American musical theatre.”  Expect to be intrigued by historical insights while being serenaded with a musical feast of iconic songs including highlights from the celebrated musical Showboat.  This showcase of “life upon the wicked stage” could not be more heavenly and will leave you humming all the way home. \nThere will be an elegant appetizer buffet and cash bar. She has also appeared frequently with\, to name a few\, Central City Opera\, Colorado Symphony Orchestra (22 times in wide-ranging repertoire)\, Opera Fort Collins\, Opera Theatre of the Rockies (both as a director and an artist) summer festivals in Vail\, Crested Butte\, Chapel Hill\, NC and Chihuahua – Boulder. Marcia is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Cornell University where she received a B.A. and M.A. in psycholinguistics and English literature. \nSteven Taylor Bio: \nRecently named as Best Performer in a Musical for 2021 by Broadway World for the Denver Region for his role as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof with Ovation West\, Steven is an active performer in concert\, onstage and as a voice actor\, Steven currently performs as the Apostle Luke with Blue Gospel Scripts’ monthly presentations at the Soiled Dove Underground. His versatile singing career ranges from opera and oratorio\, to musical theatre\, gospel and jazz. Steven has been a featured soloist three times in Carnegie Hall\, has appeared onstage with Opera Colorado\, Central City Opera\, Opera Ft. Collins\, Opera Theatre of the Rockies\, Boulder’s Dinner Theatre\, and Ovation West; and in concert with major symphonies and choral organizations throughout the west including the Colorado Ballet and the Denver Brass. \nAs a member of LEGACY Quartet\, Steven has performed concert tours in Canada\, Cuba\, Australia\, and South Korea. SUMMARY:Celebrating Black History in Song
DESCRIPTION:Program with a mini-­concert from our Conservatory scholarship winners and a special appearance of Deborah Anderson\, soprano\, in concert. There will be a reception with dessert bites and decaf coffee. \nProgram Sponsors: Nicole de Naray and Nancy & Toby Anderson \nDeborah Anderson is a native of Colorado who has spent the majority of her life performing on stage. As a second-year Graduate vocal performance student at the Lamont School of Music\, Deborah performed the lead role of Pamina in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. Most recently\, she made her professional chorus debut in Opera Colorado’s production of Carmen and CD recording of Gerald Cohen’s Steal A Pencil For Me as chorus role. Since taking a leave from her graduate studies in 2021\, Ms. Anderson has been seen on stage with The Eagles on their “Hotel California” Tour in addition to singing with the Evan’s Choir for United Way Fundraiser featuring keynote speaker Renée Elise Goldsberry. \nDeborah also had the opportunity to sing in the Colorado Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker with the Evan’s Choir. She was recently selected to sing the National Anthem for Colorado Remembers 9/11: Commemoration & National Security Forum hosted by the Governor of Colorado. As an undergraduate at Nyack College\, Deborah performed at Lincoln Center\, Steinway Hall\, and she starred in the role of Dorothy in an off-Broadway production of The Wiz at the American Theatre of Actors. Deborah also toured throughout Asia as a vocalist with the Nyack College Chamber Choir. When she is not on stage\, Ms. Anderson substitutes for elementary school teachers and enjoys interacting with the students gaining invaluable life lessons applied both on and off stage. \n
