SUMMARY:Ivalas String Quartet presented by EPIC and the Ent Center for the Arts at UCCS
DESCRIPTION:Experience an evening of exquisite music on October 11 with the Ivalas Quartet\, an ensemble praised by The Strad Magazine for their “tremendous heart and beauty.” Hailing from the prestigious Juilliard School\, this young and innovative quartet is dedicated to amplifying BIPOC voices in the world of chamber music. Their talent has earned them top honors\, including first prize at the 2019 WDAV Young Chamber Musicians Competition and the grand prize at the 2022 Coltman Chamber Music Competition. The night will culminate in a breathtaking performance of a Beethoven string quartet. Secure your tickets now for a night of musical excellence! \nAbout Ivalas: \nHailed by The Strad for playing with “tremendous heart and beauty\,” the Ivalas Quartet has been changing the face of classical music since its inception in 2017. Composed of violinists Reuben Kebede and Tiani Butts\, violist Marcus Stevenson and cellist Pedro Sanchez\, Ivalas seeks to enhance the classical music world by consistently spotlighting past and present BIPOC composers. \nRecently\, The Ivalas Quartet served as the Graduate Resident String Quartet at The Juilliard School\, where they studied with the Juilliard String Quartet. They were previously in residence at the University of Colorado-Boulder under the mentorship of the Takács Quartet. \nPerforming on concert series all throughout the United States\, the quartet has been presented by the Austin Chamber Music Center\, Newport Classical\, Schneider Concerts\, the Chautauqua Institution\, the Skaneateles Festival\, Friends of Chamber Music Denver\, and CU Presents\, where they collaborated with the Takács Quartet in 2020 and 2022. In May of 2023 and 2024\, they presented full programs at Carnegie Hall\, titled First Light and Fate and Yearning\, respectively. Recently\, the quartet has enjoyed performing on Lincoln Center’s Summer for the City\, and in collaboration with New Latin Wave\, the New Voices in Composition series. \nThe Ivalas Quartet won a Salon de Virtuosi Career Grant in 2023\, and also had the great honor of serving as the 2022-23 Ernst Stiefel String Quartet-in-Residence at Caramoor. In 2022\, Ivalas won the grand prize at the Coltman Chamber Music Competition\, as well as first prize at the 2019 WDAV Young Chamber Musicians Competition. \nIn 2021\, they created the first recording of Carlos Simon’s Warmth From Other Suns for string quartet under Lara Downes’ digital label Rising Sun Music. \nThe members of the Ivalas Quartet have a shared dedication to their roles as educators. The quartet has nurtured students from the early stages of their musical journey to the collegiate level\, with coaching experience including residencies at the University of Northern Iowa\, the University of Central Arkansas\, Madeline Island Chamber Music\, and the MacPhail Center for Music. In New York City\, they have coached student groups at The Juilliard School in both the preparatory and undergraduate divisions. The quartet has also greatly enjoyed working with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center on their Chamber Music Beginnings program for the past 2 years\, and is greatly looking forward to continuing this partnership in the years to come. \nAbout EPIC:\nAs the Ent Center for the Arts only Chamber Music series\, the purpose of EPIC is to raise the quality of performing arts programs in Southern Colorado by creating experiences that involve music of the highest caliber. As a result\, EPIC provides more reasons for musicians to come to our community\, stay here and work here. As always at EPIC Concerts\, performers will interact with the audience and answer your questions. One performance only!

SUMMARY:Ornaments of Delight presented by Parish House Baroque
DESCRIPTION:An intricate element of baroque music is the use of ornaments\, or special ways of decorating the music. Some ornaments are light and simple\, while others take on such richness and extravagance that they dazzle the audience with virtuosity and brilliance. While these ornaments are typically improvised\, many composers left behind instructions and elegant examples of the types of ornaments performers were expected to produce. Come revel in the timeless elegance of music by Telemann\, Pachelbel\, Corelli\, and Bach\, as we sit at the feet of the masters and learn their ways.

SUMMARY:People\, Places\, Things
DESCRIPTION:Cottonwood Center for the Arts is pleased to present People\, Places\, Things – a solo exhibition for the month of November featuring works by Max Settlage. Max Settlage was born in a small village in north central Vietnam and grew up in the mountains outside of Flagstaff\, Arizona. As a young boy\, he spent countless hours drawing and creating fictional characters. In addition to the natural beauty of the San Francisco peaks\, and landscape adjacent to his childhood home\, Max was also influenced by the culture and art of the Native peoples of Northern Arizona. \nAfter retiring from a career as a professional figure skater\, he has worked over the past years to develop his painting style\, learning techniques with acrylic\, oil\, and other media. Working in a style that can be described as illustrative storytelling\, Max blends whimsical elements with traditional fine art tropes\, adding a bit of the unreal and unexpected to familiar situations and settings. \n  \nCome experience this exhibit and enjoy two floors of open studios + galleries this First Friday from 5-8 pm\, and all month during normal business hours.

SUMMARY:Ladies Hike - Lionshead Rock (40's & 50's)
DESCRIPTION:Let’s get together and meet some new female friends. This group social hike is for women between the ages of 40’s and 50’s.\n\n\n\nAre you looking for an outlet to meet new people?\nHave you fallen into the habit of staying home because your friends are too busy\, focused on other things?\nAre you wondering how to make friends as an adult – outside of the workplace?\n\n \nIf so\, come along with us on our monthly Ladies hikes! Connect with ladies at the same stage of life as you AND start building a community of local friends. \nThese hikes are meant for meeting new people and helping you find friends to hang out with on a regular basis. \nWe always have a great time looking at the views\, taking photos\, chatting\, and laughing together. Every hike brings a mix of new people\, which makes it a really welcoming group to be in. \nThis group social hike is for women between the ages of 40’s and 50’s. \n\n\nAbout this month’s hike: \nWe’ll hike from the Lionshead Rock via Cougar Ridge Trail. NOTE: Some of us will be carpooling for this trail. Please register for more details. \nPlease arrive to the trail by 9:40 am – hike starts promptly at 9:45 am. If you are carpooling\, you will need to arrive earlier to meet us. Plan for 2 hours on the trail total. More details to follow in the confirmation email. \n\n\nIt can be a bit scary to put yourself out there in a new group of people. \nYou might be thinking the following: \nWhat if there’s nothing to talk about? We stop often to do ice breaker topics along the hike to give us good conversation starters! We switch up talking buddies along the way\, too\, so you have a chance to chat with many different ladies. \nWhat if I’m a slow hiker? We take our time on these hikes to stop often to chat as a group\, and we never leave anyone behind. Each person varies at their level of hiking experience (from beginner to expert) and we always go at a pace that works for everyone. \n\n\nIt’s so much more fun to do activities when you have friends who want to do them with you. \nWhy not start building your circle of friends now who want to experience new things? \nHere’s what some of the hikers are saying: \n“What a great group of women to spend my morning with! So appreciative to Emma for organizing this group hike and to all the fantastic women who I met today. This is just the beginning!” – R \n“Thank you\, Emma for organizing this hike. I really enjoyed meeting some lovely likeminded ladies while getting outside on this gorgeous morning. I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone better.” – L \n\n\nWant to join us? Please register so I know to expect you. Registration capped at 10 ladies to keep the group manageable. \nIf you can’t attend this one but want an invite to the next\, please subscribe to this event page\, or subscribe to my newsletter here! I’ll do these monthly on different trails in the Vail Valley area.
