SUMMARY:Needle Felted Beehive
DESCRIPTION:What is all the BUZZ about needle felting? It’s a popular fiber art that lets you stab things and is super easy and fun to learn!\n\n\nIn this class we will make a delightful beehive with buzzing bees. The project is from a felting kit designed by The Crafty Kit Co in Scotland. With your creativity and imagination\, the hive and bees will be a unique felted item for you to be proud of \nThis project is geared for beginners (first-timers\, or still learning basics) and is a great class to take with friends! \nAll supplies are included and the project will be done at the end of the class. \nTickets cost: $50/person + tax and EventBrite fees \n \nFelting kits for other designs will be available at the end of the workshop for purchase. \n*Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult who is also taking the class. \n\n\nInstructor bio: \nHi! I am Monique Mullis\, a retired Colorado State Park Ranger and co-owner of The Felted Dog with my sister. I am self-taught and started needle-felting over twelve years ago after looking high and low for a fiber art that didn’t include counting! It didn’t take me long to quickly learn what a fun\, inexpensive\, and addicting hobby it can be. I get most of my inspiration from nature and like to add my version of silly or whimsy to all the projects I make. \nOver the years\, I have learned various applications of needle felting\, from appliqué on wool to 3-D wool creatures. I continue to develop my personal technique called EZ Peazy felting which uses little “cheats” to ensure a successful project the first time. I have designed several felting kits with these fiber “hacks” front and center. \nOver the years\, I have been so lucky to travel to many fiber festivals as a vendor and instructor. I have taught needle felting workshops at the Estes Park Wool Market\, Sneffels Fiber Festival in Ridgway Colorado\, the Texas Fleece and Fiber Festival\, Bander Fiber Festival\, the Eureka Springs Fiber Festival in Arkansas and even a virtual workshop in 2020 at the New York State Sheep and Wool Festival (Rhinebeck). I also teach monthly felting classes in our storefront and maker’s space\, CoLLECTIVE\, in Pueblo Colorado. \nWhile I enjoy perfecting my own skills and making art pieces\, I am particularly passionate about introducing people to needle felting and giving them the skills and tools\, they need to make their own fiber creations. \n \nwww.thefelteddog.com \n\n\n*No cancellations or refunds will be accepted but if you are unable to make it\, we will allow your spot to be transferred to someone else with 48 hrs notice. Thank you for your understanding.

SUMMARY:Portraits Simplified - An Intro to Portait Painting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:An adult coloring book workshop focused on an introduction to portrait painting.\n\n\nStephen from Art from Early is returning to Sweetwater Flower Market for an introduction to oil paint and portrait painting. Participants will choose from one of the 3 portraits to replicate: Brad Pitt\, Chadwick Boseman\, or Jenna Ortega to paint during the class. \nThe portrait chosen by each participant will be drawn on an 8×10 canvas precisely as it is in the images attached. This will eliminate the need for drawing skills and allow everyone to focus on learning how to mix skin tones. No Drawing Skills needed. Stephen lays it all out like an adult coloring book. The only difference is you’ll learn how to mix and paint beautiful skin tones to take your portrait beyond merely coloring. He believes art is for everyone and has a passion for sparking interest in painting and offering skills to every day people. \nIn Stephen’s own words: “My gallery of choice is in the homes of those I’m fortunate to work with. When most people think of fine art they think of giant paintings in immaculate frames roped off in beautiful upscale galleries. While that sounds like a dream come true for any artist\, I find far more meaning in connecting with people on a personal level. I’m an artist with a love for family and I thrive on emotional connection.” \nYou can find his work on his Instagram account and website: \nIG: ArtFromEarly \nWebsite: https://www.artfromearly.com/ \n\n\n*No cancellations or refunds will be accepted but if you are unable to make it\, we do allow your spot to be transferred to someone else with 48 hrs notice.
\n*Attention: This project does require some patience and focus. For that reason\, we don’t reccomend children under 10 years old attending the workshop. Children older than 10 are welcome to attend with an adult who is also paying to take the class. Come join local artist Tyler Dixon as he teaches you how to paint with the spirit of an impressionist in a relaxed atmosphere. \nTyler will provide color pallet options to change your design. \n $55/Ticket \n\n\nTyler Dixon is a fine art muralist who has been instructing painting classes for 9 years. Tyler has been featured in Colorado Springs Parade of Homes 2021 and Colorado Springs Lifestyle Magazine March 2022. You can find his murals in every Sweetwater Flower Market location in town! \n \nhttps://tylerdixonmurals.wixsite.com/website \n\n\nNo cancellations or refunds will be accepted but if you are unable to make it\, I will allow your spot to be transferred to someone else with 48 hrs notice. Thank you for your understanding.

SUMMARY:Colorado Native Plant Master: North Cheyenne Canyon Park
DESCRIPTION:A three week series of classes on native plant identification in the field. We will identify 40-60 plants throughout the course.\n\n\nSchedule: June 22nd\, June 29th\, and July 6th from 8:30AM-12:30PM. Participants must attend all three classes for course completion. \nPark Description: North Cheyenne Cañon Park is a city-owned park with over 1\,600 acres. The park has two visitor’s centers and has many many miles of trails. Helen Hunt Falls sits near the top of the park and water from Cheyenne creek flows through the canyon. Imposing walls form either side of the canyon where sandstone and shale is marked by granite outcrops and peaks. Diverse and abundant plant life thrives in these varying ecosystems. \nPLEASE NOTE: The terrain that we will cover in this course is steep with areas of loose gravel. We will cover 2-6 miles each day during the 4 hour class period. If you are concerned about the mileage\, terrain\, or footing\, please consider signing up for our Garden of the Gods class later in the season. \nWe will introduce you to 40-60 plants\, using family features and a botanical key to help identify species. Ecological relationships\, human connections and the potential to use some of these plants in your landscaping will be discussed. In addition\, we will emphasize understanding noxious alien plants and the challenge they present to our native environment. \nTrainers: \nAllisa Linfield is a Colorado Native Plant Master and is on the Board of Directors for Friends of Cheyenne Cañon\, a non-profit organization that partners with the city to steward North Cheyenne Cañon Park. She is a graduate student at Colorado State University researching Colorado native plants and she is the Horticulture Program Coordinator for CSU Extension in El Paso County. \nJan Berry completed her Colorado Master Gardener training in 2020 and her Native Plant Master training in 2022. She hikes and camps all over Colorado\, in awe of the variety of ecosystems (and flora) we have in our state. She is working on incorporating more native plants into her landscape in downtown Colorado Springs. \nPrerequisite: A basic botany class is suggested for those who would like to refresh their botanical knowledge and is highly recommended for those who have minimal background. There will be two free Zoom classes taught by Lenore Mitchell covering Basic Botany and Plant Families offered by CSU Extension in Jefferson County in April which you can register for at the link below\, to satisfy this requirement. \nBasic Botany\, April 4th from 9 am – 12:30 pm \nPlant Families\, April 11th from 9 am – 12:30 pm \nhttps://secure.rec1.com/CO/jefferson-county-open-space/catalog (found under NPM Single day) \nIf you register for this NPM course after the pre-requisite classes have occurred\, a recording of the prerequisite classes will be sent in the confirmation email. \nNative Plant Master: Participants who pass three NPM courses will receive a Native Plant Master Certificate. This 12 hour class fulfills 1/3 of the 36-hour coursework requirement towards certification as a Native Plant Master. Courses should be taken in different months and/or vegetation zones. Learn more here. \nRequired Textbook: Flora of Colorado by Jennifer Ackerfield. (The 2nd edition (2022) is preferred if you need to buy this book\, but the 1st edition (2015) is OK because students will be given a list of changes between the 1st and 2nd editions for plants studied during the course.) Available through the Colorado Native Plant Society bookstore (https://conps.org/conps-store)\, local and online retail outlets\, and the publisher (800-621-2736). \nWhen/Where to Meet: Meet at the Starsmore Visitor and Nature Center. I am Monique Mullis\, a retired Colorado State Park Ranger and co-owner of The Felted Dog with my sister.
