SUMMARY:SOFA KING ABSTRACT
DESCRIPTION:Cottonwood Center for the Arts is pleased to announce a juried exhibition for the month of November\, featuring works in response to an open call to the public: SOFA KING ABSTRACT\, with a special Guest Juror – Lauren Ciborowski of The Modbo. \nWhere do our works of art end up? The pieces we painstakingly toss our souls into\, the things we make that leave all of ourselves behind on the canvas\, in the clay\, woven into a fabric shadow of ourselves. \nMaybe they get famous. Maybe they live in a drawer or behind doors. But if they sell…they have a new identity to face; how they get along with the existing furniture of the buyer. For this open call we asked artists to consider perhaps the artists’ biggest foe\, the ubiquitous sofa as an inspiration point. \nOur team selected and purchased a vintage sofa. This exhibition asked creatives for Abstract Art\, using the exact pictured sofa as their muse. Artists were allowed to submit up to three pieces for consideration. Works must have been made to pair with only the sofa pictured. \nCome experience this exhibit and enjoy two floors of open studios + galleries this First Friday from 5-8 pm\, and all month during normal business hours.

SUMMARY:Beethoven 5
DESCRIPTION:It begins with four notes that changed music forever. Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony storms the stage in a defiant journey from darkness to triumphant light. Hannah Kendall’s Spark Catchers gives voice to working women in 1800’s London factories\, while Michael Daugherty paints the labor and fire of Detroit steel. Together\, these works blaze with resilience\, struggle\, and ultimate triumph. \nJoin us for Pre-Concert talks. Go behind the curtain and inside the score with these 30-minute pre-concert conversations one hour before the concert starts.
