SUMMARY:Open Mic for the Literary Arts
DESCRIPTION:This open mic welcomes any writer of any level and also welcomes any of the performative arts! We would love it if you came and read / performed your work with us — each month of the open mic is on a certain theme\, a theme we vote on each month. Each participant is allowed up to seven minutes\, but you do not have to take up the full seven minutes of course. All are welcome to attend as well\, you do not need to read in order to come\, we love our crowd participants just as much 🙂 We do our open mic each month\, typically on the third Friday of the month. \nIf you want to perform you will sign up at the start of the event! Once you walk into the main gallery of Cottonwood you will see a sign up table. \nIf you have any questions please reach out to our host: Jacqueline Moulton (jmoulton@idsva.edu) \nSee you there!

SUMMARY:DREAMSCAPES
DESCRIPTION:Cottonwood Center for the Arts is pleased to announce a juried exhibition for the month of May featuring works in response to an open call to the public: DREAMSCAPES \nHuman beings spend roughly 33% of their lives sleeping\, which equates to around 26 years. Accounting for the average time spent falling asleep\, you will spend 33 years of your life in bed. \nI have dreamt my entire life about a farmhouse on the plains – one I have never seen before. I have dreamt my entire life about a mountain pass at sunset that doesn’t exist\, it runs alongside a cold river. I dream of impossible and terrifying storms in the sky\, the smell of a pine forest\, water\, highways. I dream in faded blues and yellows. \nWhat do you dream\, what have you seen\, and what pieces of it do you carry with you? \nFor this call we asked artists to analyze and celebrate our unconscious lives. The worn-out edges of visions we grasp at every morning\, and the colors and shapes you sort through when explaining them. \nNon-representational and representational works were accepted for this call. Entries of all mediums and styles were accepted. \nPhoto credit: Stephanie Moon – Eternal Echoes
