SUMMARY:Electric Safari
DESCRIPTION:Electric Safari at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is the only place in Colorado where you can enjoy a holiday-safari themed drone show\, and explore 50 acres of one-of-a-kind light sculptures\, twinkling light displays\, and larger-than-life illuminated inflatable animals while hand-feeding a giraffe herd on the side of a mountain! (Drone show and inflatables are weather dependent). For the last five years\, Electric Safari was voted 3rd Best Zoo Lights in the U.S. by USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. This year’s event will celebrate 34 years of holiday cheer\, and Santa Claus will be listening to wishes December 6 – 23. Come celebrate the holiday season with sparkling lights\, animals and fun for the whole family! For tickets and all the details\, visit cmzoo.org/electric. \n  \nAdvance timed tickets are required for members and non-members. Zoo member tickets are free\, but must be reserved in advance. Due to the popularity of Electric Safari\, some times and nights may sell out in advance. Everyone visiting the Zoo must have their own advance e-ticket\, including children age 2 and under. Discounted tickets (senior and military) will be validated at the front gate with the appropriate ID.

SUMMARY:The Politics of Building a Weapon: Early History of the A-10 Warthog
DESCRIPTION:Close Air Support failed in the Korean War. It failed again in the Vietnam War. The Army had had it with the Air Force and its disdain for the land battle. So\, Army leaders designed a super-helicopter that cost twice as much as any fighter jet of the time. This threatened Air Force budgets and so forced the fly guys to very reluctantly design America’s first and only Close Air Support attack jet. This fully illustrated presentation details the design considerations that resulted in the truly ugly and supremely effective Warthog. \nInstructor: Ed Herlek : BS in Engineering and Political Science from the US Air Force Academy and MA in National Security Studies from California State University. Ed is a recognized authority on “near space” or stratospheric unmanned systems. He is a pilot (both military and civilian aircraft)\, and served in the Air Force Space Command developing unmanned systems. \nCost: Free class\, but participants must register online starting November 2. \nThursday\, December 19\, from 10:10 am to 12:30 pm at PILLAR \n  \nAbout The PILLAR Institute \nPILLAR Institute for Lifelong Learning is the only independent lifelong learning institute in the Pikes Peak region and southern Colorado.  It is a volunteer-driven membership organization that is open to all. \nFor 25 years\, PILLAR has created opportunities where adults can come to socialize\, volunteer\, and keep their brains active through curiosity and learning. \nLifelong learning class offerings change from trimester to trimester and range from topics in history\, science\, geopolitics\, art\, health\, music\, spirituality\, and more.
