“Entry Points” - Concurrent Solo Exhibitions by Dan Baumbach & Lydia Riegle
“Entry Points” is two solo exhibitions that combine the unique expressions by Dan Baumbach and Lydia Riegle, utilizing photography and painting, to explore the concept of “entry points” as part of their creative process. The main gallery will be divided to give a dedicated space for Dan Baumbach and Lydia Riegle to display an entire body of work.

Dan Baumbach

Dan Baumbach creates his abstract and semi abstract macro photographs as an entry point for his personal expression. For Dan, an “entry point” is an object through which one can enter a state of expanded awareness. Anyone can experience an “entry point”. It can happen while one is walking in nature, at the ocean, viewing a sunset or listening to music. One becomes immersed in the experience and is taken out of their small self into a peaceful and joyous state.
Dan usually finds his “entry points” in nature. He may be sitting in grass, stooping by a creek, walking on ice or wandering on a trail. He remains focused on subjects, colors, shapes and feelings. When shooting macro photographs, he takes the time to pick out what he wants to photograph from the myriad possibilities. He spends time being present to the quiet to see the subtleties and colors around him. From this quiet, he composes, focuses and creates his macro images. Dan Baumbach invites the viewer to let his photographs act as entry points, inviting everyone to enter into them and enjoy the quiet.

Baumbach has been taking photographs for most of his life, beginning in his twenties working in New York City in advertising and fashion photography. After moving to California, he became involved in large format landscape photography around the Marin County Watershed and Yosemite National Park. In Colorado he mainly focuses on photographs of grasses, leaves, clouds and water. His work is on display in the Boulder Community Hospital, The Ritz Carleton in Beaver Creek, The Sheraton Hotel in Avon, Price Waterhouse, UCSF Medical Center, and Good Samaritan Hospital. He has participated in the Boulder Open Studios for the past nine years. His work can be viewed at:

Lydia Riegle
Lydia Riegle paints contemporary abstractions using her curiosity and engagement in her personal history as entry point into the exploration of new beginnings, diversity, and inclusiveness. Her family immigrated to the United States; a new start filled with a rich mix of different languages, thinking and culture. Lydia uses her work to express that one’s personal history informs today’s thinking and actions which results in value being created on many integrated levels.
As an oil painter and printmaker, her personal expression is organic in nature using line work and glaze overlays that softly mask but also reveal the underlying history of her hand and intent. She enters into her expression with free movements of her mark making to push or pull to connect or form edges. The lines may be thick, thin, hard edged, or blurry. There is a softness created by the overlay of glazes. The art making process mimics life by creating layers of line and glazes until all parts build up into a rich
