Planning for Postpartum Success: The First Four Weeks with your Newborn
This is a great class for first-time parents and is 1 of the 3 classes we ask first-time parents to attend.We encourage you to attend it between 32 and 36 weeks of pregnancy. This class covers care for baby and mother in the immediate post partum period, basic newborn care (bathing, dressing, diapering) as well as logistical and emotional elements of the first few weeks of being new parents. In addition to discussing the importance of a “babymoon,” recruiting help with household chores after baby arrives in order to make the transition easier, parents will be taught warning signs in various health areas including cord care, urination/bowel movements, skin care and more. Dads or partners are required to attend! Instructor: Pia Long Pia Long has been passionate about birth, education, wellness, and prevention since her self-preparation and journey to Motherhood. She has previously taught childbirth education & is honored to teach Birth Recovery and Early Newborn Care at Mountain Midwifery Center. She graduated from The College of Wooster with a B.A. in Spanish and a minor in Chemistry. She considers herself a multi-talented early education professional with diverse experience in planning, teaching and implementing various activities for the promotion of physical, spiritual, social, emotional & intellectual growth to mamas-to-be, partners, children & extended families of young children. PIa is RYT-200 certified through Yoga Alliance and she completed her training in Charleston, WV through the first RYT school in the state of WV; OM Seva School of Yoga. Her yoga experience includes Prenatal, Postnatal, Toddler & Children's Yoga instruction. She is a birth doula, certified through DONA (Doula of North America) in 1999, who works with women during & after pregnancy. She graduated from Sacred Mountain Midwifery School in 2012. She also apprenticed as a home birth midwife from 2011 - 2014 in WV with a CNM, CPM & DEM as well as within an Amish Community in Ohio. She is currently a Co-Teacher in a Montessori Toddler Community & mother to two teenaged ladies. She has more than 10 years of experience working with children as a Montessori Educator. Pia moved to the mountains of Colorado from WV in 2014 & is excited to join the dynamic Mountain Midwifery team and share her gifts with the families at MMC.
