Discover! Grasses of South Platte Park - Sun., September 8; 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Sunday, September 8, 2019, 8:30 AM

Would you rather have a root canal than identify grasses? We'll painlessly identify common native and invasive grasses as they grow in South Platte Park. With minimal keying and a focus on visible, recognizable characteristics, you'll leave bolstered in your ability to tell blue grama from side-oats grama, or western wheatgrass from crested wheatgrass.  Trainer: Beth Hanson served as the Education Manager at Hudson Gardens and has been a Naturalist at South Platte Park since 2005.  She has been a Native Plant Master since 2014 and a Native Plant Master trainer since 2015. Life Zone: Plains Required Textbook: A Simplified Guide to Common Colorado Grasses, Janet Wingate, available through CoNPS at https://conps.org/conps-store/ for $3.50.  Optional Text:  There is a free download available through Pawnee Buttes Seed that features many of the grasses we’ll be studying:  https://pawneebuttesseed.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/2016-guide-to-grasses.pdf.
