2019 USMC Memorial 5K/10K
This year we are working with the Arvada Harvest Festival and will be partnering with them to facilitate the USMC event and highlight the Marine Corps Memorial for fundraising and awareness. We’ve just been advised that the City of Arvada will be engaged in a major road project August through at least September of 2019. Thus, along with the Arvada Harvest Festival, we are working to re-route the course(s) and will keep you advised accordingly. Initial thoughts; there are some gorgeous trails on the west end of Arvada that might well provide a vast improvement. We will keep the Faith and work towards developing the course in a way that enhances the historic beauty of Arvada and the historic value of the Arvada Harvest Festival – FORZA! Join us for the US Marine Corps Memorial 5K/10K at Memorial Park in Arvada. This event helps to fund the Marine Corps Memorial located at Colfax and 6th Avenue in Golden, Colorado. The Women Marines Association founded the US Marine Corps Memorial 5K in 2006 to help fund their 501 (c)3 purposes and to help with the expenses at the Memorial itself. Founded in 1977 on 6th Ave and Colfax in Golden — the Memorial serves as a place to mourn, reflect, honor and rest for those in any service, but especially for Marines. Many organizations use the Memorial for promotions and other ceremonies as well as weddings. It is also used to teach young people about service to the community and country and the importance of remembering those who served. Each year we make additions to the “Circle of Honor” to include current memorial honors and ongoing updates that support the ever-relevant necessity for the memorial. There are many more improvements to the grounds that are being planned. In order to keep a flag flying in acceptable condition at the Memorial it cost over $2K a year, maintenance and improvements are a great deal more. Funding provided through your donations and your participation in the run will help to make those changes possible.
